James Robin Mullen
James Robin Mullen began his career in the chemical industry at CIL (a subsidiary of ICI) in sales and product management. He built up and developed a single, regionally managed organization from what were two highly centralized competitors. During this time he served on the Canadian Chemical Board, assisting and consulting during chemical disasters.
From there, Mullen moved into industrial distribution, taking over the presidency of Price Daxion, an organization with 21 locations and $250 million in sales. While there, he merged two large distribution businesses, creating a single company; this company, along with two others were eventually acquired and became part of Unisource, a $1 billion enterprise. Additional accomplishments during this time include being the founding director of the Canadian Polystyrene Recycling Association, serving on the North American Marketing Board and being elected Director QSRC (Canadian Foodservice Association). Upon relocating to the United States, James Robin moved into the President and CEO position at AFFLINK (formerly Affiliated Paper Companies). He developed a new strategic direction, transitioning the business from distribution houses and a buying group, to a marketing, consulting and e-commerce company. The business was turned around financially, paying down large sums of debt and tripling the profitability. Mullen created new business units, including packaging, safety and healthcare, and rebuilt the National Account business, leading to double-digit annual compound growth. He was key and directly involved in all major negotiations with suppliers, distributors, National Accounts and with Performance Food Group, the eventual owners of AFFLINK. Currently, Mr. Mullen owns his own consulting business -- NEXTEP Partners, LLP. He is focused on assisting start-ups and existing companies with mergers, acquisitions, security issues and profitability improvements, among a variety of other services. David A. Hanna
